Next month, Polari will be 15 years old! Yes, it’ll be a whopping 15 years since we hosted our first ever event upstairs at the Green Carnation bar in Soho.
A lot has happened since then. We’ve moved venues – several times. We’ve toured extensively – across the UK and beyond. We’ve launched not one, not two but three new book prizes for LGBTQ+ writing. All in all, it’s been a busy 15 years.
So it seems rather fitting that our next two events are both on the 15th of the month – starting with The Polari Prize event at The British Library on Nov 15! We’ll be announcing this year’s Polari Prize winners with the help of previous winners John McCullough and Diana Souhami and some of our esteemed judges. And we have a live musical treat in store for you!
Then on Dec 15 it’s A Very Polari Xmas at Eagle London, with turns from Barbara Brownskirt, Susie Bot, Adam Zmith and more – and party tunes from host Paul Burston, who’ll be DJing until midnight.
We hope to see you at one or both!
