2019 was the year when Polari hit a whole new level. In addition to the 20 touring dates funded by Arts Council England, we had sold out events at the Southbank Centre, featuring the likes of Dustin Lance Black, Russell T Davies, Maureen Duffy, Lisa Jewell, VG Lee and Tracey Thorn.

And who could forget Polari In Heaven starring Adele Anderson, Neil Bartlett Barbara Brownskirt, Alexis Gregory, Paul Varjack? Yes, back in May we filled the main floor of London’s most famous LGBT club with a literary salon!

In fact, it was so good we’re doing it again – on Feb 18 with Cerys Evans, Nikita Gill, David McAlmont and Joelle Taylor. Tickets are available now from Eventbrite and selling fast!

But if any image best sums up Polari in 2019, it’s this one – taken at our Twelfth Birthday at Southbank in November and featuring Russell T Davies, PJ Samuels, Amrou Al-Kadhi and Alison Child. A truly diverse lineup and a night I’ll always remember.
